Infosys is reportedly planning to hire about 20,000 freshers in FY2026, after hiring a similar number in 2025, according to a Business Today report published on 15 October 2026. The report says the new recruits will receive AI training before they are placed on client projects. The company has not given a detailed timeline in that report.
What Infosys leadership said
Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2026, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said he expects “almost half of our work” to involve AI-related services within the next two to three years, according to the report. He also projected that AI could be “20-30 per cent of our work in a few quarters”. These are forward-looking estimates, and the report frames them as depending on current growth continuing.
The report also says AI services made up over 8% of Infosys revenue in the previous quarter, and that over 80,000 employees use AI coding tools.
What kind of AI work is involved
The report describes three broad areas of AI-related work:
- using AI to write, test and maintain software
- upgrading older software and IT systems
- building AI systems that can carry out tasks
The report does not list specific job titles or skill requirements for the new hires.
What this means for freshers
This section is our view, not part of the report.
Large IT companies are still hiring freshers, but they increasingly expect new joiners to be comfortable using AI tools. That does not replace the fundamentals. Companies still need people who can write clean code, query data with SQL, and explain how a system works. AI tools make strong basics more valuable, not less.
If you are preparing for campus or off-campus hiring, three steps help:
- Get solid in one core skill: Python full stack, Java, or data analytics.
- Practise using AI tools for coding help, testing and documentation, and learn to check what they produce.
- Build two or three projects you can explain in an interview, end to end.
