Freshers often ask what to show in an interview for a cloud or DevOps role. A short portfolio of small, working projects answers that better than a list of tool names. Here are three beginner projects that match what our AWS and DevOps course practises.
Project 1: Deploy a web app on AWS
Take a small web app, even a single page with a form, and put it on an AWS server. Write down each step: how you created the server, how you opened only the ports you need, and how a visitor reaches the app. What to show: the running app, the steps in a README, and one thing that went wrong and how you fixed it.
Project 2: Set up a simple CI/CD pipeline
CI/CD means the code is tested and delivered automatically when you change it. Start with a small project and set up a pipeline that runs a test, builds the app and deploys it. What to show: the pipeline file, a screenshot of a passing run, and a note on what happens when a test fails.
Project 3: Secure a cloud environment with access controls
Create a user who can only do one job, for example read files from one storage bucket, and check that everything else is blocked. This shows you understand the idea of giving the least access needed. What to show: the rules you wrote and a short test that proves the blocked actions are blocked.
How to present them
- One GitHub repository per project, with a README that explains the goal and the steps.
- Plain language: say what you built and what you learned.
- Be ready to explain every step, because interviewers ask.
